Statement by OCPP policy analyst Janet Bauer on Supreme Court ruling in King v. Burwell
Today’s Supreme Court decision is a victory for the health of our country. Millions of families across the nation can have peace of mind that the federal subsidies that make it possible for them to afford health insurance will remain in place.
Now, Oregonians must turn their attention to health reform’s unfinished business: extending health insurance to those who still lack coverage.
An Oregon Basic Health Program (PDF) under the Affordable Care Act would be a key step in reaching that goal. This session lawmakers enacted a bill directing state officials to develop a plan for Basic Health. We will be looking to the 2016 session to finish the job by implementing a Basic Health Program.
